Summon The Imperial Courier

Project Morituri runs on your own RoF2-era EverQuest client — it is not included, not distributed here, and cannot be. The Imperial Courier, downloaded from the Barracks, installs the Morituri add-on (dinput8.dll), the custom UI files, the server's spell and skill data and the classic zone files it runs, keeps them current, and points your client at the login server.

ONE LAUNCHER

Put TheImperialCourier.exe in your client folder, next to eqgame.exe, and start the game from it.

DIRECTX 9 IS REQUIRED

Install the DirectX 9 June 2010 End-User Runtime from Microsoft first. The add-on needs d3dx9_35.dll, which a stock Windows 10 or 11 does not have, and it will not load without it.

THE LAUNCHER IS UNSIGNED

Windows SmartScreen shows "Windows protected your PC" the first time you run it. Choose More info, then Run anyway.

CLOSE THE GAME BEFORE PATCHING

The Courier refuses to patch while any EverQuest client is running. The first patch downloads roughly 1 GB: it includes the classic zones, models, item art and maps a stock client lacks.

Honor the Twelve Tables of Law

The arena is forged on martial honor, single-boxing integrity, and respect among gladiators:

Single-box. One character at a time in adventure zones; the Bazaar is the exception for traders and buyers. MacroQuest is allowed.
Fair play & exploit zero. Report terrain bugs and spell loopholes; do not abuse them for gain.
Commerce & RMT. Zero real-money trading for equipment, plat, or leveling services.
Gladiator camaraderie. Respect all combatants in Discord, the bazaar, and the arena.

Verify client configuration

✓A working RoF2-era EverQuest client — it is not included with the Courier and is not distributed here. You supply your own.

✓The DirectX 9 June 2010 End-User Runtime is installed. A stock Windows 10 or 11 does not have d3dx9_35.dll, and the Morituri add-on will not load without it.

✓TheImperialCourier.exe sits in the client folder, next to eqgame.exe.

✓The launcher is unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen shows "Windows protected your PC" the first time — choose More info, then Run anyway.

✓The Courier's client folder is that same folder, and it shows Verified.

✓Every running EverQuest client is closed — the Courier refuses to patch while one is open.

✓PATCH finished without errors — dinput8.dll is in place, and the server disconnects clients without it. The first patch downloads roughly 1 GB.

✓Antivirus has not quarantined dinput8.dll or the Courier (add an exclusion, then press PATCH again).

✓Started the game with ENTER ARENA (PLAY) and chose Claudius Maximus from the server list. Type any username and password: the account is created on first connect, there is nothing to register.

Enter the sands of glory

Press ENTER ARENA (PLAY) in The Imperial Courier and type any username and password — the account is created on first connect, there is nothing to register — then choose Claudius Maximus from the server list. Search legendary weapons in the Armory, test spell combinations in the Spellbook, or inspect reigning champions in the Pantheon.
